When a BOP works and when it doesn’t
BOPs work well when the risk is straightforward: a single office location, standard operations, no unusual liability exposure, and property values under the BOP’s cap (the cap varies by carrier). For a small accounting firm, a marketing agency, or a retail shop, a BOP is often the best value.
BOPs stop working when you need flexibility. They come with preset sub-limits, mandatory coverage combinations, and eligibility restrictions that don’t always fit. A business with significant equipment, multiple locations, or higher property values will usually get better coverage from standalone property and GL policies where each line is negotiated individually.
We place BOPs where they make sense and recommend standalone lines where they don’t. The goal is the right coverage at the right cost, not the simplest policy to issue.
